About

Born in Cairo, shaped by everywhere else. I covered the Egyptian revolution, bylined in Al Jazeera English and Daily News Egypt, with research and field reporting for The Washington Post, NPR, AP and Newsweek, then spent two years at Google in Sunnyvale. I've lived and worked across Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Mediterranean, 44+ countries and counting. Journalism is published as Ragia Mostafa, no u.

Most recently I was Head of Marketing for a five-brand Malta hospitality group. There I drove €148.7K in direct booking revenue in five months across 20 source markets, at 6.1% booking-engine conversion and an 81.7% pre-arrival email open rate. Before that: German and French casino content for Casino.org's Luxembourg markets, casino reviews for Emirates Casino, and +40% YoY DACH organic growth at Game Lounge. I take revenue back from the aggregators, in whichever language the market actually thinks in.

When I'm not writing for the internet, I'm performing stand-up comedy in Valletta, roasting coffee at home, or explaining the etymology of an Arabic idiom to someone who didn't ask.
